Trade Suggestions Out of Beta: Draft Picks, All Team Windows, and Smarter Scoring

announcement · feature · trades

Trade Suggestions was the most-requested beta feature since we launched it. Today, we're taking it out of beta and making it available to every user — no account or beta access required.

Along with the open launch, we shipped a significant upgrade to how the suggestion engine handles draft picks. If you've used Trade Suggestions before and noticed picks were missing, that's been fixed.

What Changed

Draft Picks in Suggestions

The biggest change: draft picks now appear on both sides of suggested trades. Previously, the scoring engine treated picks as a special case that only worked for rebuilding teams. Now picks are first-class trade assets for every team window.

You'll see picks in several new trade shapes:

  • Player + pick for player + pick — the classic dynasty package deal
  • Player + pick for two players — converting draft capital into roster depth
  • Two players for player + pick — consolidating talent while adding future assets
  • Pick for pick — moving up or down in draft position
  • Player for pick and pick for player — the existing 1-for-1 shapes, now available for all team windows

Picks Work for Every Team Window

Previously, the suggestion engine had a hard requirement: every trade must improve your starting lineup. Since draft picks don't fill lineup slots, this effectively blocked pick trades for contenders and competing teams.

The new logic uses value surplus as a proxy when picks are involved. If the total value you're receiving is at least as much as what you're sending, the trade can pass the filter regardless of your team window. Rebuilders still get a scoring bonus for accumulating picks, but contenders and retooling teams will now see pick trades too.

Smarter Scoring

Several scoring components were biased against picks:

  • Window alignment — contenders previously scored just 0.2 (out of 1.0) for receiving picks, making those trades nearly invisible. Now they score 0.4, keeping the gradient (rebuilders 1.0 > retooling 0.6 > contenders 0.4) while letting pick trades compete
  • Positional need — pure-pick trades used to score 0 on the positional axis since picks have no position. They now get a neutral 0.5 instead of being penalized
  • Lineup gain — all team windows now use value surplus as a fallback when lineup gain is zero due to picks, not just rebuilders

New Rationale Tags

Trade suggestion cards now show pick-specific context alongside the existing tags:

  • Converts picks to talent — you're sending picks and getting players back
  • Accumulates picks — you're acquiring draft capital
  • Upgrades pick capital — you're swapping picks (e.g., moving up in a draft)

No More Beta Gate

Trade Suggestions no longer requires an account or beta access. Open any dynasty league, click the Calculator tab, and switch to Trade Suggestions. The engine analyzes every team in your league and surfaces up to 20 win-win trades ranked by lineup impact, value fairness, positional fit, and team window alignment.
